About
The Unity Bar is a human rights and social justice organization based on principles of equality, fairness and justice. It embraces diversity and seeks common ground. It understands the power of unity, inclusion and collaboration. It is premised on a dedication to service.
Courts are the cornerstone of democracy. Judges serve as the ultimate public servants. Thus, a fair selection process allowing equal opportunity is of heightened importance. A primary goal of the Los Angeles Unity Bar is to recruit, recommend, support and retain highly qualified candidates to the bench who reflect the vibrancy of the community served.
Our members consist of the Asian Pacific American Bar Association; Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles; Italian American Bar Association; Japanese American Bar Association; Mexican American Bar Association; Philippine American Bar Association; Southern California Chinese Lawyers Association; South Asian Bar Association of Southern California; and the Vietnamese American Bar Association of Southern California.
Together our members seek to promote access to justice. We believe that judicial candidates should possess a unique blend of characteristics, including humility, empathy, intelligence, intellectual curiosity, integrity, civic-mindedness, community involvement, and a strong work ethic.
The L.A. Unity Bar will strive to (among other things):
